Queensland’s most northerly BIG4 Holiday Park, situated on the Far North Coast is BIG4 Port Douglas.

We were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time with our stay coinciding with good friends that we had first met way over on the other side of the country at the Dampier Penisula, Western Australia. It was great to be able to catch up with them. It's easy to say that one of the greatest joys of travelling our beautiful country is meeting amazing people along the way!

We were also lucky to meet a few of the friendly locals in this tropical Holiday Park.... be sure to keep an eye out for them too! Namely a goanna (or two - not sure if it was the same one in a different spot) and a couple of Bush Stone Curlews with their chick, also commonly known as murder birds due to their screaming calls. There was plenty of birdlife to spot around the park.

If you want to spot a couple of local crocodiles check out the bridge about 1km up the road. There are two crocs that are regularly seen at low tide sunning themselves on the mud bank. We were lucky enough to see them but of course our camera battery was flat!

BIG4 Port Douglas Glengarry Holiday Park is located in a peaceful location around 7km from town. Its has large powered and unpowered sites and a variety of cabins set among tropical gardens.

The park also has a lagoon style pool and kids water playground and jumping pillow. Check with reception which night is BYO Wood fire pizza night, held in one of the camp kitchens.

Whilst on the Far North Coast of Queensland don’t miss the opportunity to go snorkelling and diving at the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the worlds largest reef system, an adventure not to be missed.

Port Douglas tour operators offer a variety of family cruises, reef tours, and dive trips to the Great Barrier Reef that allow you to explore the diversity of marine life and corals without the big crowds. Port Douglas has fewer tour operators than Cairns and has easy access to the outer reef.

We had a fantastic day out on the reef, enjoying perfect weather conditions which meant great visibility. We were also lucky enough to see humpback whales on the way back in to Port with the captain steering us over for a closer look.

Snorkelling off Port Douglas on the Great Barrier Reef

After our big day out on the water snorkelling and swimming on the Great Barrier Reef we returned back to the BIG4 Holiday Park via our bus transfer for a well earned rest.

We had an awesome stay at Port Douglas!
