We found our happy place at South Mission Beach!

What a top spot South Mission Beach is. Located on QLD’s Cassowary Coast in Far North Queensland, what’s not to love about this stunning location!

BIG4 Tasman Holiday Parks South Mission Beach is located right across from a stretch of beautiful beach which overlooks Dunk Island. Park manager Elvira and her very welcoming smile and cheery personality will have you laughing and feeling welcome from the minute you arrive!

If you are lucky you might just spot a Cassowary or two in this holiday park! We missed spotting one during our stay but would you believe the day we left they were spotted on our campsite.

We rode our bikes along the esplanade to the South Mission Beach boat ramp where we started the Kennedy Walking Track. We then hiked along the track as far as Morgans Lookout.

This hiking track takes you through some amazing rainforest that hugs the coastline with stunning views over to Dunk Island. It continues via Lovers Beach along a boardwalk and then heads down onto the beach at Lugger Bay. At the end of that beach you then cross a footbridge over a creek and then you follow the mangrove lined coast along to Morgans Lookout.

We kept our eyes peeled for a Cassowary and although we didnt see one on our hike, we did come across a set of huge Cassowary footprints on the beach leading into the rainforest.

Rainforests have the most amazing trees and we love the variations in bark and texture. Below are some pretty cool examples.

Interesting bark and textures of the rainforest trees

The walk continues on if you wish to go further but this is where we turned around. We highly recommend doing this walk!

Some interesting finds at South Mission Beach

We took a drive to explore some of the nearby beaches and were super exciting to see and capture on camera, this male cassowary with its chick beside the road near Etty Bay on the Aptly named Cassowary Coast. We felt very fortunate indeed!

Below is the very picturesque Bingil Bay and Etty Bay Beach…

These two awesome destinations are located between Mission Beach and Innisfail. Stunning beaches surrounded by dense tropical rainforest and palm trees is what you will encounter here. Just awesome!

Another point if interest we stumbled upon on our day drive was the Mourilyan Sugar Terminal. The Port of Mourilyan exports raw sugar and molasses from the Innisfail, Babinda, Tully and Atherton Tablelands sugar growing districts.

The port also includes a livestock export facility and a state-of-the-art stockpile facility from which iron ore was first exported to Southern China in 2016.

Our last perfect day in this slice of QLD paradise at South Mission Beach was spent right across the road, relaxing on the beach soaking up the sun.

It is without a doubt that one day we will definitely return to this Holiday Park for another stay!
