In this post we take a look at the Annex that attaches to our Birdsville 1400 Hybrid Rooftop Tent.
The annex provides extra shelter and privacy when setting up for longer stays. It is made from 210D seam sealed Ripstop Polyoxford with a convenient removeable, heavy duty 600GSM PVC floor.
We like to mount our RTT over the back of our vehicle. There are a number of reasons for this. In this case, with the annex attached we can access the rear of our canopy to access our gear, drawers, food and even cook in complete privacy and in the case of rain or very hot days, have the shelter we need to stay dry/cool and comfortable.
There are three large entries into the annex and another completely sealable rear entry point allowing us to access our vehicles canopy. The entry door flaps can also be used as awnings for even more shelter from the elements. (poles sold seperately). It comes in a nicely sized carry bag that you can actually get it back into! When folded up the annex is 0.7m x 0.36m x 0.38m.
We wondered weather our bike rack might be an issue with the fitting of the annex, however it fits really well around it and there is no need to remove our rack nor our bikes when we attach the annex.
We had taken our bikes off prior to taking the photos in this particular case however this is only due to the fact that we had left them at a friends for a couple of days. As you can see in the photos, the bike rack, being a Rockymounts swing away rack, is conveniently out of the way beside the rear of the vehicle.
The annex suits configurations up to 2.2m high which is ideal for us, larger vehicles and trailers. It weighs 10kg and its dimensions are 2.4m x 2.4m x 2.2m.
